SADC Chiefs of Police Convene in Dar es Salaam to Tackle Transnational Organized Crime
From June 2 to 6, 2025, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chiefs of Police Sub-Committee, also known as the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO), will hold their annual general meeting in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania.
The meeting aims to develop and strengthen strategies to prevent and respond effectively to transnational organized and cross-border crimes in the SADC region.
Aligned with the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (2020–2030), the gathering will focus on enhancing regional cooperation frameworks. Discussions will prioritize combating a range of organized criminal activities, including drug and firearms trafficking, motor vehicle theft, human trafficking and migrant smuggling, stock theft, money laundering, and cybercrime.
A key part of the agenda will be improving information sharing and coordinating joint and simultaneous operations to dismantle criminal syndicates operating across borders. The meeting will also review recommendations from the recent SARPCCO Technical Organs meeting held in Dar es Salaam from April 28 to 30, 2025.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Camillus Wambura of the Tanzania Police Force will chair the meeting. He will hand over the SARPCCO chairmanship to Mrs. Merlyne Yolamu, Inspector General of the Malawi Police Force, following the conclusion of his one-year term.
The Chiefs of Police meeting will be preceded by sessions involving the Heads of INTERPOL National Central Bureaus for Southern Africa, as well as meetings of various SARPCCO Technical Organs, including the Permanent Coordinating Sub-sub Committee, the Legal Committee, the Women’s Network, and Training Sub-sub-Committees.
