Czech Republic Pledges Support for Zambia’s Digital Inclusion

The Czech Republic has pledged to support Zambia in advancing digital inclusion through technology transfer and capacity building, following a high-level meeting between Czech Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Marian Jureka and Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Mutati.

Hon. Mutati expressed appreciation for the Czech Republic’s contribution towards digital inclusion in Zambia, including scholarships awarded to Zambian professionals in Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security.

“We have created an enabling environment through legislation, policies, and strategies to support a digital Zambia. Last year, we launched our Artificial Intelligence strategy, and for two years running, Zambia is among the few African countries with 5G connectivity. We are also using satellite technology led by Starlink to improve connectivity,” said Hon. Mutati.

He added that building trust and confidence in cyberspace remains a priority, highlighting the recent enactment of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Law.

“The next step is to develop tools to address challenges in cyberspace. We welcome cooperation with the Czech Republic to find solutions that protect our people,” he said.

Hon. Mutati also noted the importance of digitising government records, a key area of focus for President Hakainde Hichilema.

Deputy Prime Minister Jureka acknowledged the many digital advances Zambia is making across agriculture, healthcare, education, and public administration.

He noted the benefits and risks of Artificial Intelligence and shared how his ministry has used AI to reduce its workforce by 10% while delivering faster and more efficient services.

Mr. Jureka assured Minister Mutati of Czech Republic’s commitment to cooperate on data management and processing for central administration and public safety, as well as on cybersecurity initiatives.
