FAWEZA Launches Gender-Responsive Pedagogy Training for TVET Institutions

The Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia (FAWEZA) has launched a five-day Training of Trainers (ToTs) workshop focused on Gender-Responsive Pedagogy (GRP) for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

The workshop, taking place from May 11th to 17th at Andrews Hotel in Lusaka, brings together partner institutional staff and FAWEZA focal point persons from all ten provinces of Zambia.

The training is part of the Second Chance Pathway Programme, a Mastercard Foundation-supported initiative aimed at improving education outcomes and employment opportunities for Zambia’s youth, particularly young women from marginalized communities.

Speaking at the official opening, FAWEZA National Treasurer Bernadette Mufalo underscored the importance of GRP in creating inclusive, equitable, and empowering learning environments.

She described educators and institutional representatives as “front-line change agents” who will play a critical role in transforming Zambia’s education sector to support the needs of all learners.

“This training is more than just a session—it is a movement to shift perspectives and enhance institutional capacity. Gender-responsive pedagogy is key to ensuring that teaching practices and institutional cultures uphold dignity, equality, and access,” said Mufalo.

The workshop is designed to equip participants with tools and knowledge to promote gender-sensitive teaching methodologies, eliminate classroom biases, and create a more supportive environment for both young men and women.

Ms. Mufalo expressed gratitude to the participating institutions for their continued collaboration and praised the FAWEZA team for organizing the capacity-building initiative.

She officially declared the workshop open and encouraged participants to share the lessons learned across their institutions and communities.
