BAL and City of Dakar Unveil Refurbished Basketball Court in Yoff, Senegal

The Basketball Africa League (BAL), in partnership with the City of Dakar, has officially unveiled a newly-renovated basketball court in Yoff, Senegal, offering a safe and vibrant space for over 5,000 local residents to enjoy and learn the game.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by key leaders, including Secretary General of the City of Dakar Mouhamed Diop, Yoff Mayor Seydina Issa Laye Samb, NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi, and BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall.

As part of NBA Africa’s pledge to construct 1,000 basketball courts across Africa over the next decade, this initiative emphasizes BAL’s commitment to community development. The refurbished court aims to foster youth empowerment through sport, education, and health.

Following the ceremony, BAL and Speak Up Africa hosted a basketball clinic and malaria prevention workshop for 50 boys and girls under the age of 16. The session, held in recognition of World Malaria Day, provided youth with tools and knowledge to promote malaria awareness and prevention in their communities.

“Today’s court unveiling, basketball clinic and malaria prevention workshop reflect our commitment to giving back to the communities where we operate,” said Amadou Gallo Fall.

City Secretary General Mouhamed Diop added, “This project brings hope and opportunities for our youth. It symbolizes our commitment to creating inclusive spaces where sports fuel education and social cohesion.”

The event took place alongside the 2025 BAL Sahara Conference group phase, concluding at Dakar Arena.
