Zambia Association of Musicians Moves to Secure Pensions for Artists
The Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) is actively working on introducing pension schemes for music artists in a landmark move aimed at redefining the music industry as a professional and economic sector.
ZAM President Kasoka Brian Bwembya, also known as B-Flow, confirmed the development, stating that the association is exploring mechanisms to ensure musicians are included in pension structures, just like other sectors.
“We are currently exploring ways of securing pensions for music artists. Since time immemorial, musicians have been viewed as just entertainers, but we are determined to change the narrative because we believe that music is a profession,” Bwembya said.
He added that it is encouraging to learn that even informal sectors like the arts qualify for pension inclusion, and ZAM is working diligently to ensure its members benefit from this opportunity.
“We will soon make some announcements to this effect. We are gradually graduating from being a social sector to becoming an economic sector,” he emphasized.
ZAM continues to advocate for artists’ rights and economic empowerment under its rallying call: “United with One Voice!”
