FIFA Orders FAZ to Reconvene Elective AGM Within 21 Days or Risk Suspension

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has been directed by FIFA to reconvene its Elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) within the next 21 days, following the disruption caused by a High Court injunction that halted the original meeting scheduled for March 29, 2025.

In a press statement released today, FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga confirmed that Football House has received formal guidance from FIFA, which stipulates that the reconvened AGM must take place no later than May 10, 2025, and be held in Lusaka or nearby.

“As for your request for guidance in this situation, please note that we are of the opinion that the Annual Elective General Meeting must be immediately reconvened to take place in 21 days… latest by 10 May 2025,” stated FIFA’s Chief Member Associations Officer, Elkhan Mammadov.

FIFA has also reiterated that any future interference by ordinary courts in football matters will not be tolerated, warning that such actions may trigger disciplinary consequences, including the suspension of FAZ.

“We have received with great concern the information regarding the interim injunction issued less than 24 hours before the AGM, which restrained the meeting from being held,” Mammadov added. “For the avoidance of doubt… the infringement of FIFA Statutes may give rise to grounds for the suspension of FAZ, irrespective of whether the infringement was attributed to FAZ or not.”

Mammadov further stated that FIFA had conducted an internal assessment based on reports from its representatives who were present in Livingstone, where the original AGM was scheduled to be held.

He confirmed that FIFA will once again send observers to ensure that the reconvened meeting proceeds in a fair and transparent manner.

In light of the directive, Kamanga said FAZ will now proceed to issue the formal notice for the reconvened AGM in line with its constitutional procedures.
