Zambia Recognized as Key Trade and Investment Partner by European Union

Zambia has been officially recognized as a key trade and investment partner by the European Union (EU), marking a new chapter in the country’s economic diplomacy and international cooperation.

The announcement came during a high-level courtesy call led by a 17-member delegation from EU Member States currently visiting Zambia to explore investment opportunities.

Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, MP, welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to strengthening its bilateral ties with the EU. He emphasized the importance of transitioning from a donor-recipient relationship to one built on mutual investments and joint ventures.

“We are moving toward a model that promotes equitable sharing of resources, skills, and revenue. This partnership with the EU will help us generate sustainable development through trade, not aid,” said Hon. Mulenga.

The EU Ambassador to Zambia and COMESA, Her Excellency Ms. Karolina Stasiak, expressed satisfaction with the longstanding relations between the EU and Zambia.

She noted that the visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of EU-Zambia diplomatic ties—an important milestone that reflects the depth and resilience of the partnership.

“This 50-year milestone is not only a time for celebration but also for action. We are excited about Zambia’s potential and are keen to expand our cooperation,” said Ambassador Stasiak.

Yamin Guerfi, Chair of the EU Council African Working Group and head of the delegation, noted that the visit aims to deepen the EU’s understanding of Zambia’s business environment and engage both government and private sector stakeholders.

She reiterated the EU’s commitment to working closely with Zambia to unlock investment potential and promote inclusive economic growth.
