 U.S. Gov’t Pledges Continued Support in Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Fight

The United States of America has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting Zambia’s ongoing efforts in the fight against corruption, with Ambassador Michael Gonzales emphasizing that corruption remains a major obstacle to the nation’s economic advancement.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director-General Mrs. Daphne Chabu, Ambassador Gonzales pledged continued U.S. technical and financial assistance, noting that the cost of engaging in corruption must outweigh the perceived benefits.

He stressed the need for robust enforcement and effective prosecution as a deterrent against corrupt practices.

“The U.S. Government stands with Zambia in ensuring that public officials are held accountable and that systems are strengthened to prevent corruption at all levels,” the Ambassador said.

In response, ACC Director-General Mrs. Chabu expressed gratitude for the support provided through U.S. agencies, particularly highlighting the USAID Local Impact Project.

She said the initiative has played a key role in revitalizing Integrity Committees in local authorities, improving ethical standards and transparency in public service.
