Zambia Hosts Welcome Reception for Third Least Developed Countries Future Forum

The Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Chipota Mutati, MP, hosted a welcome reception for the Third Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Future Forum at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka. 

The event, held in collaboration with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, marked the commencement of the high-profile forum scheduled to take place from April 1 to April 3, 2025.

Distinguished guests at the reception included representatives from the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), Hon. Dr. Owen Chomanika, Malawi’s Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change, who represented the LDCs group, and H.E. Mr. Ville Tavio, Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, alongside other diplomats and dignitaries.

Hon. Mutati expressed Zambia’s deep honor in hosting the forum, highlighting the nation’s commitment to advancing sustainable development for LDCs. “On behalf of the government and the people of Zambia, I extend my deepest appreciation to all attendees. Your presence underscores our shared commitment to sustainable development and resilience for LDCs,” he stated.

The minister also extended sincere gratitude to the Government of Finland for its steadfast support in making the forum a reality. “Your unwavering commitment to the development agenda of LDCs and dedication to strengthening international partnerships have been pivotal in ensuring the forum’s success,” he added.

The LDC Future Forum serves as a crucial platform for dialogue, collaboration, and strategic reflection on pressing development challenges and emerging opportunities for the world’s least developed nations. This year’s forum is themed ‘Enhancing Resilience: Innovative Solutions for Strengthening LDCs’ Resilience Against Systematic Shocks.’

Hon. Mutati urged delegates to actively engage in discussions, exchange innovative ideas, and build lasting partnerships that will drive sustainable economic transformation. 

“In the face of global uncertainties, economic shifts, and climate challenges, it is imperative that we champion the interests of our nations and reinforce partnerships that accelerate our development agenda,” he emphasized.

The reception provided an opportunity for participants to foster meaningful collaborations, strengthen diplomatic ties, and reaffirm their collective vision for a more resilient and prosperous future for LDCs. The insights and contributions from delegates are expected to play a crucial role in shaping sustainable solutions that enhance economic resilience and adaptability to global challenges.

The Third LDC Future Forum officially kicks off today, promising impactful discussions and strategic outcomes for the development of LDCs worldwide.
