Zambia and Finland Launch Online Youth Entrepreneurship Learning Programme
On March 31, 2025, Zambia and Finland unveiled an innovative initiative to foster youth entrepreneurship through an online learning programme aimed at enhancing digital and entrepreneurial skills.
The launch was attended by Zambia’s Minister of Science and Technology, Honorable Felix C. Mutati, and Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Mr. Ville Tavio.
The programme, developed by Finnish technology giant Nokia, in collaboration with Airtel Networks Zambia, aims to empower 100 young Zambians with practical business skills and digital competences. Participants will undertake an 8-week entrepreneurship course designed to promote innovative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit.
The programme is grounded in Finnish technical and vocational education and training (TVET) methodologies, emphasizing real-world experience through a “learning at work” approach.
Honorable Felix Mutati expressed pride in partnering with Finland, Nokia, and Airtel Zambia to advance digital skills for Zambia’s youth. “Digital transformation is crucial for economic growth, and empowering our young people with these skills positions Zambia as a leader in Africa’s digital revolution,” he stated.
The initiative is part of Zambia’s broader effort to integrate ICT-driven upskilling and reskilling programmes, aiming to nurture a culture of innovation across the country. Airtel Zambia has committed to providing data bundles to support participants’ learning, while the Ministry of Science and Technology will select the 100 students who will benefit from the course.
Mr. Ville Tavio highlighted the strategic collaboration between Finland and Zambia, noting that the programme demonstrates the role of Finnish expertise in education and educational technology in advancing Zambia’s educational and entrepreneurial landscape.
The course will include online assessments and participants will be awarded downloadable certificates upon successful completion. In addition to the online learning, there will be community gatherings and entrepreneurial hubs to engage the participants.
With Zambia’s youth representing about 26.7% of the population, and facing an employment rate of 17.6%, this programme provides an important opportunity for young people to acquire the skills necessary to create their own economic opportunities.
