Cassava Technologies and Microsoft Partner to Empower South African Youth in Renewable Energy Industry

Cassava Technologies, a leading pan-African technology company, has announced a strategic collaboration with Microsoft to launch a community engagement initiative aimed at creating employment opportunities for youth in South Africa’s renewable energy sector.

The initiative will focus on skills development, energy efficiency, and the establishment of community microgrids, empowering young professionals to lead in the transition to clean energy.

The project, centered in Johannesburg and Cape Town, will see the establishment of training hubs designed to equip young people, particularly women, with the necessary expertise to thrive in the renewable energy industry. These hubs will not only provide education and practical experience but also ensure that local communities benefit directly from the energy transition.

Cassava Technologies, through its renewable energy and co-location subsidiaries, will play a pivotal role in this collaboration. With deep expertise in local renewable energy markets, the company aims to create tangible economic opportunities and sustainable projects for the communities involved.

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s global reach and technological capabilities will enhance the program’s impact, supporting climate initiatives that drive growth and sustainability.

Finhai Munzara, Chief Corporate Development Officer at Cassava Technologies, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are honored to collaborate with Microsoft on this initiative, ensuring that all Africans are included in the transition to a digitally connected future powered by sustainable energy. By leveraging our technological expertise and Microsoft’s expansive resources, we are set to make a meaningful impact on South African communities.”

Markus Swart, Director of Data Centre Operations in South Africa at Microsoft, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of climate action. “We are pleased to work with Cassava to support climate initiatives in South Africa that uplift local communities, ensuring they have the tools needed to succeed in the evolving energy sector,” Swart said.

Through this partnership, Cassava Technologies and Microsoft are laying the foundation for broader community engagement and sustainable development, with plans to expand the initiative across other African markets in the future.
