British High Commissioner Commends Zambia’s Energy Reforms

The newly appointed British High Commissioner to Zambia, Her Excellency Rabecca Terzeon, has praised Zambia’s ongoing energy sector reforms and reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s support for the country’s energy transformation agenda.

During a courtesy visit to the Minister of Energy, Hon. Makozo Chikote, MP, at the ministry’s headquarters in Lusaka, Terzeon acknowledged the government’s commitment to improving energy security, attracting investment, and expanding renewable energy sources.

She particularly highlighted the Zambia-Tanzania Interconnector as a vital project that will enhance regional electricity trade and stability.

“The planned interconnector with Tanzania will be instrumental in strengthening cross-border electricity supply, boosting economic growth, and enhancing energy reliability across Southern and East Africa,” said Terzeon.

She noted that Zambia’s energy sector reforms align with broader regional and global goals of ensuring sustainable and affordable energy access.

Minister Chikote emphasized the need for increased private sector participation to address Zambia’s energy challenges, particularly in light of recent droughts that have affected hydroelectric power generation.

He emphasized the role of public-private partnerships in fostering sustainable energy solutions and enhancing the resilience of Zambia’s energy sector.

“The government is committed to modernizing the energy sector by expanding hydro, solar, and other renewable energy sources. Our goal is to ensure a stable and affordable power supply for the nation while also supporting regional energy integration,” said Chikote.

Both parties expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. Terzeon assured continued British support in fostering innovation, investment, and capacity building in Zambia’s energy industry.
