Western Province Minister Applauds FAZ for Upholding Constitutional Governance
Western Province Minister Kapelwa Mbangweta has commended the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) for its consistent adherence to its constitution, particularly in holding provincial assemblies.
Speaking at the opening of the Western Province Elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Country Lodge, Mbangweta praised FAZ for its transparency, accountability, and commitment to its constitutional requirements.
“This AGM demonstrates our dedication to transparency, and I appreciate the provincial leadership for ensuring we continue to hold such meetings regularly,” Mbangweta said.
He emphasized the importance of unity as the province prepares for the March 29 elective AGM in Livingstone, encouraging members to adhere to the constitutional processes for airing grievances.
FAZ President Andrew Kamanga also addressed the delegates, challenging the Western Province FAZ leadership to work toward delivering a team in the Zambian Premier League. Kamanga recognized the successful decentralization efforts of FAZ, which have expanded football operations to all ten provinces.
He reiterated FAZ’s commitment to infrastructure support, with plans to extend FIFA’s infrastructure program to Western Province in the next cycle.
Kamanga also encouraged the province to capitalize on the opportunities presented by the ABSA Cup, which includes provincial teams, and to explore the potential of beach football in the region.
He pointed out that the province’s sandy areas could be ideal for establishing a successful Beach Soccer League, offering a new avenue for community engagement and talent development.
The Western Province AGM marks the ninth of the ten provincial assemblies leading up to the national elective congress. Eastern Province is set to hold its AGM on Thursday before the national caucus on Saturday in Livingstone. This ongoing process aligns with the FIFA-aligned FAZ constitution, which ensures representation from all provinces in the national executive committee and a fair voting process for the national AGM.
