MTN Zambia Celebrates 20 Years of Digital Transformation and Connectivity
MTN Zambia has marked its 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of revolutionizing telecommunications, bridging the digital divide, and driving Zambia’s digital transformation.
Speaking during the launch of the MTN@20 campaign, MTN Zambia CEO Abbad Reda reaffirmed the company’s commitment to providing cutting-edge digital solutions. “Our belief remains at the heart of everything we do: every person deserves to enjoy the benefits of a modern, connected life,” he said.
MTN Zambia has played a key role in advancing Zambia’s telecommunications industry since launching in 2005. The company has expanded rural coverage, introduced affordable smartphone options like the Alola smartphone, and established dedicated desks for people with hearing impairments to ensure digital inclusion for all.
Pamela Pio, General Manager – Corporate Services, highlighted MTN Zambia’s efforts to bridge the digital divide, stating, “We have installed sites across the country, enabling even remote communities to access our services.”
MTN Zambia’s Chief Consumer Officer, Richard Acheampong, thanked customers for their loyalty, emphasizing that the company remains focused on making digital connectivity accessible through strategic partnerships that lower device costs.
Brand & Communications Manager Dalitso Miti echoed this sentiment, stating, “This campaign is about our customers. We reflect on where we’ve come from and look forward to an even more connected future.”
For 17 years, MTN Zambia’s Y’ello Care initiatives have impacted children, women, youth, refugees, and people with disabilities—addressing needs in climate action, job creation, and education.
Zambia’s Minister of Science and Technology, Honorable Felix Mutati, MP, encouraged MTN to leverage government opportunities presented in the ICT policy and the digital transformation strategy to invest in rural connectivity, public-private partnerships for ICT infrastructure, and support for youth-driven innovation and digital startups.
He emphasized that the government will walk with MTN by creating an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive in digital technology, fostering a future where every Zambian, regardless of location or status, has access to affordable, high-quality digital services.
The Honorable Minister congratulated MTN Zambia for 20 years of shaping Zambia’s digital landscape and urged them to continue leading in innovation, inclusion, and technological excellence.
As part of its MTN@20 celebrations, the company promises more exciting customer-focused activities throughout the year.
