Nigeria to Host 32nd Afreximbank Annual Meetings in June 2025

Nigeria is set to host the 32nd Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM) in Abuja from June 23-28, 2025, marking one of the largest gatherings of global African leaders, policymakers, and business executives in the history of the bank’s annual conferences.

The Host Country Agreement was signed between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), solidifying the nation’s role as a key partner in Africa’s economic growth and trade integration. The meetings will bring together over 6,000 delegates, including Heads of State, government officials, business leaders, academics, and industry experts from across Africa, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and beyond.

H.E. Wale Edun, Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, highlighted the significance of hosting the prestigious event. “Nigeria is honoured to host the 2025 Afreximbank Annual Meetings, which will serve as a critical platform to drive discussions on trade financing, economic growth, and investment opportunities across Africa. This event is a testament to our commitment to strengthening Africa’s financial sector and positioning Nigeria as a hub for economic transformation,” he said.

Afreximbank President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Professor Benedict Oramah, acknowledged Nigeria’s steadfast support for the bank, noting that the country has been a major contributor to the institution’s growth and impact.

“We greatly appreciate the Federal Government of Nigeria’s acceptance to host the 2025 Afreximbank Annual Meetings, which demonstrates our united determination to accelerate Africa’s economic growth and development,” he stated.

This year’s theme, “Building the Future on Decades of Resilience,” emphasizes the progress made over the past 30 years while addressing the challenges of an evolving global economic landscape. Discussions will focus on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and its role in fostering sustainable economic transformation across the continent.

Nigeria has historically been a strong partner of Afreximbank, serving as its second-largest shareholder and receiving cumulative trade and development finance disbursements of approximately US$52 billion. The country has also been the first beneficiary of several key initiatives, including the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) and the Afreximbank African Trade Centre (AATC).

Following the successful 2024 AAM held in Nassau, The Bahamas, which attracted over 4,000 participants, including 20 Heads of State, the 2025 edition is expected to set new benchmarks in engagement, policy discussions, and economic collaboration.

As Africa continues to chart its path toward economic independence and global influence, the Afreximbank Annual Meetings will provide a pivotal platform for stakeholders to strategize and drive transformative change across the continent.
