Pedaling Towards Dreams: How Yango is Empowering Young Entrepreneurs in Lusaka

At just 27 years old, Chrispin Kalutwa embodies determination and resilience. A newly licensed medical doctor, Chrispin has turned to an unconventional yet promising opportunity—working as a Yango bicycle partner courier while awaiting employment in his field of study.

Originally from North-Western Province, Chrispin moved to Lusaka in 2017 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery at Lusaka Apex Medical University. Graduating in October 2024, he obtained his medical license the following month. Rather than remaining idle, he sought an alternative income source, discovering Yango’s bicycle delivery service as a viable option.

Yango’s business model provides partnership opportunities for hundreds of couriers, supporting both individuals and enterprises. The platform stands out by offering an eco-friendly, bicycle-based delivery service that requires minimal startup capital—just a bicycle and a smartphone. Yango further supports couriers by providing essential tools such as delivery bags and training sessions to ensure efficiency and steady earnings.

“Yango isn’t just a delivery service—it’s a business platform that has created an honest way for many of us to earn and put food on the table,” Chrispin shares.

Chrispin’s passion for cycling began as a necessity during his student years, when a bicycle served as his primary mode of transportation. When he came across an advert for Yango partner couriers, he saw an opportunity to combine his love for cycling with a reliable source of income.

Since joining Yango four months ago, he has been navigating Lusaka’s streets, delivering customer orders and discovering new parts of the city. His primary route is around Chilenje, near Lewanika Mall, but he often travels beyond, maximizing his earnings by completing more orders per hour. The weekly payout structure allows him to manage his financial responsibilities efficiently, including covering the cost of his medical license.

Outside work, Chrispin enjoys long-distance cycling tours with friends, exploring locations such as Kafue Gorge and Chinyunyu Hot Springs. Inspired by his journey, he has introduced several friends to Yango, turning their shared passion into a revenue stream. He has even inspired individuals with full-time jobs—such as security guards—to supplement their income through the platform.

While Chrispin remains dedicated to his medical career, he views his time with Yango as a stepping stone toward future success.

“Yango has positively impacted my life in so many ways, and I’m forever grateful for this opportunity,” he says.

He encourages young people to embrace alternative opportunities during challenging times. His journey demonstrates that success often lies in adaptability and determination. Whether cycling through Lusaka’s streets or preparing to save lives as a doctor, Chrispin’s story is a testament to hard work, passion, and perseverance.
