President Hichilema to Embark on State Visit to Japan
President Hakainde Hichilema is set to undertake a State Visit to Japan from February 3rd to 7th, 2025, at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
The visit marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between Zambia and Japan, focusing on trade, investment, and development cooperation.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, President Hichilema will engage in high-level discussions with Prime Minister Ishiba, aiming to bolster economic collaboration.
The agenda includes the signing of key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in strategic sectors to enhance partnerships between the two nations.
The Zambian Head of State is expected to meet with top executives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Fujita Corporation, the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC), and Toyota Corporation.
The discussions will focus on infrastructure development, renewable energy investments, and economic cooperation.
President Hichilema’s itinerary includes site visits to Nagoya and Kyoto, where he will tour leading manufacturing companies and a waste treatment facility specializing in waste-to-energy solutions.
Additionally, he will deliver a keynote address at the Zambia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo on February 6, 2025. The forum is expected to attract business leaders and investors keen on exploring opportunities in Zambia.
The visit emphasizes Zambia’s commitment to strengthening ties with Japan, leveraging Japan’s expertise in innovation and technology to drive economic growth. Areas of focus include trade, renewable energy, healthcare, and education.
President Hichilema is scheduled to return to Zambia on February 8, 2025.
