Unitrans Revolutionizes Mining Efficiency with Performance-Based Vehicles

Unitrans is transforming the mining industry by integrating Performance-Based Standards (PBS) vehicles into its operations, setting a new benchmark in efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

With a fleet of over 50 PBS vehicles, Unitrans has reduced fuel consumption by 20% per tonne hauled and vehicle requirements by 54%, showcasing their ability to address the complex demands of bulk material handling in mining.

“PBS vehicles are engineered to meet specific operational needs, enhancing productivity while lowering environmental impact,” says John Kettlewell, COO of Unitrans Mining Division. Capable of transporting up to 140 tonnes, these vehicles reduce trips, alleviate congestion, and minimize carbon footprints, contributing to a sustainable supply chain.

Beyond efficiency, PBS vehicles improve safety with advanced stability, maneuverability, and braking systems, recording fewer crashes per kilometer than conventional trucks. They also reduce road wear and optimize payload capacity, ensuring cost-effective transport solutions.

Unitrans collaborates closely with mining clients to unlock the full potential of PBS technology. “This tailored approach ensures we meet evolving industry demands while delivering unmatched value,” Kettlewell adds.

The company will showcase its innovative solutions at the upcoming Mining Indaba from February 3–6 in Cape Town, inviting industry leaders to explore the transformative potential of PBS vehicles.
