SMART Zambia and LIAZ Partner to Enhance Digital Literacy in Underserved Communities
A new partnership between the Electronic Government Division (SMART Zambia Institute) and the Library and Information Association of Zambia (LIAZ) promises to close the digital divide by bringing essential digital literacy skills to unserved and underserved communities.
The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), will focus on equipping citizens—particularly those in rural areas—with the knowledge to access and benefit from digital government services.
Speaking at the signing, Acting National Coordinator of the Electronic Government Division, Mr. Mulomba Hameja, underscored the importance of inclusivity. “We must ensure no one is left behind in the digital space, particularly in far-flung areas,” he stated.
Mr. Hameja pledged SMART Zambia’s commitment to working closely with LIAZ to advance Zambia’s digital transformation agenda.
LIAZ President, Mrs. Mutinta Mweemba Nabuyanda, hailed the agreement as a milestone in fostering a digitally literate nation. “Embracing digital transformation is no longer optional. Those who resist risk being left behind,” she remarked.
She noted that the partnership would play a pivotal role in empowering citizens with essential skills and access to resources.
The MoU outlines a framework for sharing knowledge, enhancing digital infrastructure, and implementing the e-Government initiative. The partnership seeks to ensure that every Zambian, regardless of location, has the opportunity to thrive in a digitally-driven world.
