Zambia and Belgium Deepen Bilateral Ties with Inaugural Political Consultations
Zambia and Belgium have taken a significant step in strengthening their diplomatic relations with the inaugural Political Consultations held in Brussels.
Co-chaired by Zambia’s Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation, Ms. Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen, and Belgium’s Director General for Bilateral Affairs, Ambassador Joroen Cooreman, the meeting sought to evaluate existing collaborations and identify new avenues for partnership.
The dialogue highlighted key sectors, including political relations, trade, agriculture, and development partnerships. Ms. Gundersen lauded the long-standing ties between the nations, emphasizing shared values and mutual respect.
She expressed Zambia’s gratitude for Belgium’s support in areas such as renewable energy, tourism, education, and telecommunications, aligning with Zambia’s vision for economic transformation under President Hakainde Hichilema.
Ms. Gundersen emphasized the importance of collaboration on global challenges such as climate change, United Nations reform, and peacebuilding.
“This dialogue aims for actionable outcomes that enhance bilateral relations and contribute to global prosperity,” she stated.
Ambassador Cooreman reiterated Belgium’s commitment to fostering a dynamic partnership with Zambia for mutual growth. Both parties pledged to deepen ties at bilateral and multilateral levels.
The Zambian delegation included Ambassador Sylvester Mundanda and other senior government officials.
