ZRA Impounds Armaguard Vehicle Used in Cigarette Smuggling in Livingstone

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has taken decisive action against smuggling, impounding an Armaguard vehicle used to illegally transport 23 boxes of cigarettes valued at K139,000.

The cigarettes, imported from South Africa, were being moved from Kazungula to Livingstone, with plans for further transportation to Lusaka.

According to ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Oliver Nzala, the interception underscores the Authority’s intensified surveillance efforts to curb revenue losses caused by tax evasion.

The vehicle, which was seized on Monday evening, had two occupants—a driver and an armed guard. The incident highlights the lengths to which smugglers go to evade duties and taxes.

“The ZRA remains committed to prosecuting individuals and entities involved in smuggling and tax evasion under the law,” said Mr. Nzala.
