Masvingo to Plant 25,000 Trees on National Tree Planting Day
As Zimbabwe prepares to celebrate National Tree Planting Day, the Forestry Commission of Zimbabwe has set a target to plant 25,000 trees in Masvingo province.
Edwin Machokoto, the provincial acting manager, said the goal is achievable with support from all community members.
This initiative contributes to the national goal of planting 600,000 trees in 2024. Machokoto urged people to work together for the good of the environment.
The event will take place across 19 sites in Masvingo, with the main event held at Danhamombe High School.
Ezra Chadzamira, the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, will officiate. This year’s tree of the year is the Mukashu (Quinn Tree), which will be planted nationwide.
The day focuses on sustainable land management, environmental conservation, and fighting climate change.
Machokoto also reminded the public that it’s important to care for the trees after planting to ensure their growth and survival.
National Tree Planting Day is observed every first Saturday in December.
