CEJ, ZCCN  Promote Gender and Climate Justice Through Agroecology

The Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) and the Zambia Climate Change Network (ZCCN) are driving efforts to promote gender and climate justice through agroecology.

This initiative is part of the Gender and Climate Justice in Food Systems project funded by We Effect Southern Africa.

Speaking in Nyimba District during a farmer training, CEJ’s Agriculture and Water Security Coordinator, Robert Chanda, said the program equips farmers with indigenous seeds to combat climate change and food insecurity.

The project, which covers Nyimba and Petauke districts, trained 50 farmers, focusing on women and youth. The sessions included theoretical lessons and practical demonstrations on agroecological farming.

Farmers appreciated the training as a response to erratic rainfall, with CEJ setting up demonstration plots to encourage hands-on learning.

Ministry of Agriculture Facilitator, Ben Munkonze, urged participants to embrace climate-smart agriculture for sustainable farming practices.
