Govt Commends Fibrecom’s Expansion of Optic Fibre Infrastructure and Services

Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Chipota Mutati, has lauded Fibrecom for its resilience in advancing optic fibre infrastructure and maintaining reliable high-speed broadband services across Zambia and neighboring countries. 

Speaking at a networking engagement hosted by Fibrecom in Lusaka, Mr. Mutati emphasized the company’s role in enabling digital connectivity, particularly benefiting sectors like education.

The Minister praised Fibrecom’s robust infrastructure for delivering consistent transmission and enhancing Zambia’s digital traffic.

Fibrecom CEO, Eng. Nga’nalelwa Sitwala, highlighted the company’s strides in digital transformation, including the planned integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to extend infrastructure beyond Zambia’s borders. 

He reiterated the importance of partnerships to bridge the digital divide and foster a more connected Africa.

Director of Enterprise and Engineering, Simon Muwowo, outlined the company’s impressive network coverage, spanning 15,000 kilometers across Zambia’s 10 provinces and boasting a 4 Tbps transmission capacity. 

He revealed ongoing efforts to expand connections to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique, adding to existing links with Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, and Tanzania.
