Huawei Launches 2024 Campus Recruitment Drive at UNZA
Huawei Technologies, a global leader in information and communications technology (ICT), has officially launched its 2024 Campus Recruitment Drive in Zambia. The initiative, a collaboration between Huawei and leading universities, aims to support Zambia’s ongoing efforts in job creation and youth employability.
The launch event, held at the University of Zambia (UNZA) School of Education, marks the second year of this successful partnership. Speaking at the event, Huawei’s Talent Manager, Brian Muuka, expressed the company’s commitment to fostering talent and creating opportunities for young professionals.
“We are pleased to return to UNZA for the second consecutive year. Last year’s recruitment drive led to the hiring of seven full-time employees, with three additional students currently undergoing training in our internship program. Our aim is to continue collaborating with UNZA and other academic institutions to identify and nurture the best talent,” said Muuka.
Dr. Simon Tembo, Dean of the School of Engineering at UNZA, emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practice. He highlighted how initiatives like Huawei’s recruitment drive play a crucial role in the professional development of students.
“At the School of Engineering, we take pride in preparing the next generation of engineers, not only with theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills necessary to tackle real-world challenges. Huawei’s internships and training programs are invaluable in this regard,” said Dr. Tembo.
The recruitment drive was also endorsed by Orleans Mfune, Head of the Computer Science Department at UNZA, who pointed out the significance of digitalization in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. “As Zambia focuses on improving youth employability, it is essential that we equip students with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age. Huawei’s recruitment initiative is a welcome contribution to this effort.”
Since its inception in Zambia in 2004, Huawei has played a pivotal role in transforming the nation’s ICT landscape. In addition to its recruitment efforts, the company has been instrumental in various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, including rural connectivity projects and ICT talent development initiatives.
