AIZ Launches Strategic Plan to Unlock Zambia’s Agricultural Potential
The Agricultural Institute of Zambia (AIZ) has unveiled a strategic plan aimed at harnessing the full potential of the agriculture sector, which is crucial for the country’s economic growth.
The plan, set to run from 2024 to 2028, was launched at the Southern Sun Ridgeway Hotel and seeks to establish a strong foundation for a professional, innovative, and forward-thinking agricultural sector vital for food security and national prosperity.
AIZ President Kavwanga Yambayamba emphasized the importance of collaboration among government, industry, academia, and development partners to drive investment and innovation within the sector.
“The agriculture sector cannot thrive in isolation,” he stated, calling for collective efforts to advance the industry.
Over the next five years, the strategic plan will focus on several key initiatives, including promoting research and development, publishing scientific journals, establishing standards, and enhancing the capacity of professionals in the agricultural field. These efforts aim to strengthen the sector’s professional framework and ensure sustainable growth.
Agriculture Permanent Secretary in charge of technical services, John Mulongoti, who attended the launch, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster innovation, investment, and research in agriculture.
Represented by Acting Director of Policy and Planning Oscar Chita, Mulongoti highlighted that the strategic plan offers a structured approach to enhancing agricultural professionalism and assured the Ministry’s support for its successful implementation.
