ZAMMSA Urges Health Facilities to Stock Up on IV Fluids Ahead of Rainy Season

The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has called on health facilities nationwide to promptly order Intravenous (IV) Fluids in preparation for potential rainy season-related health challenges such as cholera and diarrhea.

According to the agency, it currently holds abundant stocks of IV fluids, essential for treating dehydration and administering medicines to critically ill patients.

In a statement issued by ZAMMSA’s Senior Manager of Corporate Communications, Bradley Chingobe, the agency emphasized the importance of timely orders from public health facilities to avoid any disruptions in medical care during the upcoming rainy season. The availability of IV fluids is seen as crucial for supporting healthcare providers in managing conditions that often arise during this period.

“IV Fluids play a critical role in the medication of patients who are severely dehydrated and aid in the administration of medicines for patients unable to take oral medication. They also help replenish electrolytes in affected individuals,” stated Chingobe.

ZAMMSA has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all healthcare facilities across the country are fully stocked with the necessary medicines and supplies to maintain effective treatment efforts during the rainy season.

The agency has urged healthcare providers to take advantage of the current stock availability to ensure patients receive uninterrupted care.
