FAZ Mourns Passing of Life Member Jim Chongo
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has expressed its deep sorrow following the death of former Nchanga Rangers Secretary and FAZ Life Member, Jim Chongo. Chongo, a prominent figure in Zambian football, passed away earlier today at Gandhi Hospital in Chingola after a short illness.
In a statement released by FAZ, President Andrew Kamanga expressed his condolences, highlighting Chongo’s long-standing contributions to the football community. Kamanga reflected on the significant role Chongo played at Nchanga Rangers and within FAZ, stating that his death was a huge loss to the sport in Zambia.
“The death of Mr. Jim Chongo has come as a deep shock to our football family,” said Kamanga. “Not too long ago, we buried another Nchanga Rangers luminary, Mr. Fordson Kabole, and now we have lost another great figure in Mr. Chongo. We can only honor his memory by continuing his legacy of resilience and dedication to football, especially his unwavering support for Nchanga Rangers through both its highs and lows.”
Chongo served football in various capacities throughout his career, earning respect and admiration for his unwavering commitment. His contributions extended far beyond his role as Secretary of Nchanga Rangers, as he held multiple positions that shaped the development of the sport.
FAZ has announced that the funeral is being held at House Number 12, 11th Street, Nchanga South, Chingola.
Sydney Mungala, the Communications Manager for FAZ, released the statement on behalf of the association, sending heartfelt condolences to Chongo’s family and the entire football fraternity.
Chongo’s passing marks another sad moment for Zambian football, coming just months after the loss of Fordson Kabole, another key figure in the Nchanga Rangers community.
