Uganda’s Energy Minister to Highlight Nation’s Oil and Gas Potential at AOW Investing in African Energy Event
Uganda’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, is set to deliver a keynote address at the upcoming AOW Investing in African Energy event, showcasing the East African nation’s emergence as a major player in the continent’s energy sector. The event will take place from October 7 to 11, 2024, at the CTICC 2 in Cape Town.
Nankabirwa’s presentation will focus on the upstream oil and gas opportunities Uganda offers to global investors, coinciding with the country’s plans to commence oil production next year after two decades of exploration and development.
“Uganda is now able to offer investors the predictability they need above ground,” Nankabirwa stated. “I look forward to unpacking the wealth of energy opportunities at AOW and discussing them with potential partners.”
With an estimated 6.5 billion barrels of oil in place and 1.4 billion barrels considered technically recoverable, Uganda is positioned to become one of Africa’s next major energy hubs. The country’s oil industry is anchored by the Kingfisher field and the nearby Tilenga field, which are part of a $10 billion project to develop oil reserves under Lake Albert.
This initiative also includes constructing a pipeline to transport crude oil to international markets through Tanzania’s Tanga port.
In addition to infrastructure advancements, Uganda has made significant strides in regulatory reforms, creating a favorable investment climate for international energy companies. The government has implemented robust policies to ensure that investors feel secure in their ventures within the country.
Nankabirwa’s keynote is anticipated to be one of the highlights of the AOW event, providing valuable insights and direct access to Uganda’s energy stakeholders. As Africa’s leading oil, gas, and energy event, AOW is expected to draw industry leaders focused on developing policy, sharing discoveries, and shaping the continent’s energy future.
