Zambia Army Commander Calls for Unity and Collaboration Among Defence and Security Chiefs
Commander Zambia Army, Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele, has called for goodwill, belief, mutual respect, and support among leaders in the Defence and Security wings.
Following his appointment as Commander of the Zambia Army, Lt Gen Zyeele has been engaging with Defence and Security Service Chiefs, emphasizing unity and strategic inter-service collaboration.
On 27 September 2024, Lt Gen Zyeele met with Zambia Air Force Commander, Lt Gen Oscar Msitu Nyoni, where he reiterated that inter-service cooperation is crucial for the Republic of Zambia and the Republican President, whose expectations for the Defence Force are high.
During the meeting, Lt Gen Zyeele emphasized that Defence and Security wings must engage in agriculture to boost food production, as frequently directed by the President.
He reaffirmed that taking part in agricultural activities during peacetime is a demonstration of patriotism, helping to combat food insecurity while maintaining territorial defense.
Lt Gen Zyeele stated, “We will join hands with other stakeholders to share ideas in fighting the threat of hunger, adhering to the directive of the Commander-in-Chief, Dr. Hakainde Hichilema.”
He further highlighted the Army’s modernization efforts, focusing on professional training to ensure mission success and meet national expectations.
Lt Gen Nyoni congratulated Lt Gen Zyeele on his promotion, describing the visit as “a symbol of service unity, mutual respect, and camaraderie.”
He emphasized the importance of joint operations and training exercises for national security and proposed joint efforts in addressing Zambia’s power deficit and food insecurity challenges.
