Zambia Rallies Support for Dr. Maimbo’s AfDB Presidency Bid
Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P., has intensified efforts to secure support for Dr. Samuel Munzele Maimbo’s candidacy for the African Development Bank (AfDB) Presidency.
At a breakfast event on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Hon. Haimbe emphasized the importance of electing a President with vast experience in resource mobilization and strong networks with financial institutions.
Dr. Maimbo, endorsed by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), has over 21 years of experience at the World Bank, where he currently serves as Vice President for Budget, Performance Review, and Strategic Planning.
Hon. Haimbe stressed that Dr. Maimbo’s expertise would enhance the AfDB’s capacity to deliver development goals for Africa and its member countries.
Dr. Maimbo expressed his commitment to collaborating with regional bodies and emphasized the importance of partnerships in fostering regional development.
In her vote of thanks, Permanent Secretary Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen reaffirmed Zambia’s firm backing of Dr. Maimbo’s candidacy, citing his track record in international development financing.
The AfDB Presidential election is set for May 2025.
