President Hichilema Officiates Lwanza Traditional Ceremony, Emphasizes Unity and Drought Response
President Hakainde Hichilema today joined thousands of Zambians in Bweengwa, Monze District, to officiate the Lwanza Traditional Ceremony of the Lundwe-speaking people.
Expressing gratitude to Chief Hamusonde for the invitation, President Hichilema praised the attendance of 47 traditional leaders from across the country, including Chitimukulu, Paramount Chief of the Bemba, highlighting the strong spirit of national unity.
The President emphasized that unity and diversity are key to Zambia’s progress and called on citizens to work together for the nation’s development.
He noted that the Lwanza Traditional Ceremony, which celebrates the migration of cattle into the Kafue Plains, serves as a symbol of cultural heritage, peace, and tourism development.
In light of Zambia’s severe drought, President Hichilema addressed the government’s response to food insecurity, impacting over one million households.
He assured citizens that enhanced social and emergency cash transfers would support vulnerable families, ensuring no one goes hungry.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing free healthcare and education, calling them vital investments in Zambia’s future.
