ZAMREN Launches Free WiFi at KK International Airport and East Park Mall
The Zambia Research and Education Network (ZAMREN) has successfully connected Kenneth Kaunda International Airport and East Park Mall to free WiFi through eduroam, enhancing internet accessibility for travelers, researchers, and the local community.
ZAMREN Chief Executive Officer Stein Mkandawire announced that this initiative aims to provide seamless internet access to tourists, investors, and students, enabling them to communicate instantly upon arrival.
“This connection will allow visitors to connect with their families and business partners as soon as they land,” Mkandawire stated during a media breakfast in Lusaka.
The free internet service is available to everyone, with ZAMREN also planning to expand connectivity to various public institutions, including colleges and nursing schools, to support students in their research and studies. So far, 13 public colleges have been connected to ZAMREN’s internet services.
ZAMREN Board Chairman Professor Mundia Muya emphasized the importance of internet access for students, advocating for partnerships to enhance connectivity across Zambia. “Students deserve access to the internet to excel in their studies and beyond,” he remarked.
Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati praised ZAMREN’s efforts, noting positive feedback from students at recently visited colleges who expressed satisfaction with improved online research capabilities.
He encouraged more stakeholders to collaborate with ZAMREN in expanding internet access nationwide.
