Minister Tayali Launches 4th Edition of Land-Linked Zambia Conference 2025, Advocates for Smart Corridors
Hon. Museba Frank Tayali, Minister of Transport and Logistics, officially launched the 4th Edition of the Land-Linked Zambia Conference, scheduled for 10-11 April 2025, in Lusaka.
The conference, organized by Africast, will focus on “Embracing SMART Transport Corridors in Africa,” highlighting the importance of innovation, collaboration, and strategic planning in transforming Africa’s transport networks.
Minister Tayali emphasized the need for smart corridors to enhance the movement of goods, services, and people across the continent, stressing that Africa’s 17 major transport corridors, including Zambia’s North–South, Beira, Central, Walvis Bay, and Lobito corridors, are central to regional trade.
These corridors facilitate the annual movement of over 150 million tonnes of cargo, contributing billions to the African economy.
“Africa must embrace the future and build transport networks that are not only efficient but also resilient,” Tayali stated, noting the role of transport in uniting the continent.
He described the Land-Linked Zambia Conference as a significant milestone in the journey towards regional integration, trade facilitation, and sustainable economic development, especially as the African Continental Free Trade Area gains momentum.
Africast’s founder, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, underscored Zambia’s pivotal role in facilitating trade, particularly as the demand for green minerals crucial for emerging technologies grows.
Nyirenda highlighted the importance of cross-country corridors in moving critical elements from resource-rich countries like Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to global markets.
The Land-Linked Zambia Conference has grown into a premier platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration, bringing together policymakers, investors, businesses, and development partners from across the continent and beyond.
