Proflight Zambia Celebrates First Anniversary of Lusaka-Cape Town Route
Proflight Zambia, the country’s leading scheduled airline, is celebrating the first anniversary of its groundbreaking Lusaka-Cape Town route, a direct service that has significantly improved regional connectivity between Zambia and South Africa since its launch in July 2023.
As the first-ever direct flight between Lusaka and Cape Town, the route has experienced substantial growth over the past year, reflecting the strong demand for increased air travel options between the two nations. The service has been further supported by Proflight’s direct flights from Lusaka to Johannesburg and Lusaka to Durban, offering passengers a same-day connection from the Copperbelt to Cape Town.
The Lusaka-Cape Town route has received robust support from passengers, travel agents, and other stakeholders in both Zambia and South Africa.
Captain Josias Walubita, Proflight’s Director of Flight Operations, expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are grateful for the overwhelming support from our passengers and partners. Cape Town is a destination that resonates with our passengers, and the success of this route underscores our dedication to enhancing regional connectivity. The one-stop flight via Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) is more convenient and provides a shorter travel time compared to connections through O.R. Tambo International Airport (ORTIA).”
More than just a transportation link, the Lusaka-Cape Town route has become a vital bridge for fostering tourism, cultural exchange, and economic growth between Zambia and South Africa. Cape Town’s renowned landscapes and landmarks, including Table Mountain, continue to attract tourists, while Zambia’s iconic Victoria Falls and vast national parks are increasingly popular among South African visitors.
“This direct link is opening up new avenues for both leisure and corporate travel,” added Captain Walubita. “It strengthens regional cooperation and contributes significantly to the tourism and economic sectors of both nations.”
The Lusaka-Cape Town route operates on Thursdays and Sundays, offering a journey time of approximately 3.5 hours. In response to passenger demand, the Thursday flight, currently scheduled for 14:00, will shift to a morning departure time of 08:00 starting in November, aligning with the Sunday schedule.
Additionally, Proflight plans to introduce a Saturday morning flight during the Christmas and New Year holiday season to accommodate increased travel.
Proflight Zambia’s ongoing efforts to expand its services reflect the airline’s commitment to strengthening its regional market position and enhancing travel and tourism between Zambia and its neighbors.
As the airline celebrates this milestone, it acknowledges the essential role played by its passengers and partners in the success of the Lusaka-Cape Town route. Looking ahead, Proflight remains focused on delivering efficient and reliable air travel options across the region.
