Zed Mobile Launches as Zambia’s Fourth Mobile Network Provider on 098 Platform

Zed Mobile, Zambia’s fourth mobile network operator, has officially launched its services on the 098 platform, marking a significant expansion in the nation’s telecommunications industry.

The company has already invested US$400 million in establishing a brand that promises to meet the needs of Zambians across the country.

During the launch event held in Lusaka, Zed Mobile’s Managing Director, Chisanga Kaziya, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing the local telecom sector.

He highlighted that Zed Mobile has partnered with various local contractors to establish service sites nationwide, a key part of the company’s strategy to extend its reach and service coverage.

Mr. Kaziya also revealed that Zed Mobile has developed a state-of-the-art call center, which will act as the nerve center for its operations, ensuring efficient customer service and support.

He assured the public that Zed Mobile would be a brand they could trust, aligned with Zambia’s broader economic goals.

Speaking at the same event, Hon. Felix Mutati, Minister of Technology and Science, lauded the launch of Zed Mobile, noting that the new operator would significantly contribute to increasing phone and internet penetration in Zambia.

He pointed out that the favorable business environment fostered by the government has enabled a local company to enter one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country.

“The telecoms sector is expected to grow by 21% this year. With Zed Mobile’s entry, we anticipate that internet penetration will rise from the current 64% to over 80% within the next two years,” said Minister Mutati.

He further expressed optimism that the country could achieve its target of 100% phone and internet coverage by 2026, thanks to the addition of Zed Mobile to the market.

The Minister also encouraged Zed Mobile to play a crucial role in enhancing financial inclusion through Mobile Money services, which already have a 70% coverage rate in Zambia.

Minister Mutati highlighted the strategic partnership between Zed Mobile and Baicells, which is expected to introduce advanced digital services and high-tech solutions, further driving innovation and connectivity across Zambia.
