President of Burundi to Undertake State Visit to Zambia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced that His Excellency Mr. Évariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi, will embark on a state visit to Zambia from August 1 to 3, 2024. The visit is at the invitation of Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia.
President Ndayishimiye and President Hichilema are scheduled to hold bilateral talks focusing on issues of mutual interest to Zambia and Burundi. These discussions will be followed by the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding in key areas, including Commerce and Trade, Agriculture, and Social Protection and Child Welfare and Development Systems.
On August 2, President Ndayishimiye is expected to address the National Assembly of Zambia, marking a significant highlight of his visit. The following day, August 3, he will be the Guest of Honour at the 96th Lusaka Agricultural and Commercial Show.
The state visit underscores the warm and enduring bilateral relations between Zambia and Burundi, built on shared values and a spirit of friendship. The two nations have been strengthening their ties through high-level visits, such as the recent 5th Session of the Zambia-Burundi Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation held in Lusaka in June 2024.
Additionally, Zambia and Burundi collaborate on regional, continental, and international platforms, including the United Nations, African Union, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region.
Burundi remains a strategic partner for Zambia, with bilateral cooperation spanning various areas of mutual interest. President Ndayishimiye’s visit presents an excellent opportunity for Zambia to consolidate its partnership with Burundi and advance common development aspirations, contributing to accelerated progress among African countries.
President Ndayishimiye is expected to conclude his engagements in Zambia on August 3, 2024.
