Chilanga Cement Contributes K840,000 to World Skills Africa Competition Preparations
Chilanga Cement has made a substantial contribution of K840,000 to support preparations for the World Skills Africa Competition, which is scheduled to take place in Livingstone in April 2025.
This amount, equivalent to 14,000 bags of cement, will be used in constructing the competition venue at the Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies (LIBES).
The Ministry of Technology and Science has engaged the Zambia National Service for the construction of the venue at LIBES. During the cheque handover ceremony, Chilanga Cement Chief Executive Officer Jianping Chai emphasized the company’s commitment to community investment.
“We are committed to ploughing back into the community where we operate,” said Mr. Chai. “As a proud corporate citizen, Chilanga Cement is also offering discounted rates for the cement used in this project. We are fully supportive of the World Skills Africa Competition, which will bring over 1,500 participants from across Africa to Livingstone next year.”
Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati praised Chilanga Cement’s contribution, highlighting its importance in ensuring the successful preparation for the event.
“Chilanga Cement has shown that the private sector can effectively partner with the government to support the sharpening of skills among youths,” Mr. Mutati said.
He urged other corporate entities to follow Chilanga Cement’s example and support World Skills Zambia in its preparations.
Minister Mutati also revealed that 50 African countries have so far confirmed their participation in the competition, underscoring the event’s significance in promoting vocational skills across the continent.
The World Skills Africa Competition aims to elevate and showcase vocational skills among young people across Africa, fostering greater collaboration and development in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
