Anti-Corruption Efforts Crucial for Economic Stability and Growth, Says Analyst
Mr. Kelvin Chisanga, an economic analyst, has emphasized the significant economic benefits of anti-corruption initiatives, highlighting their role in ensuring effective use of resources and fostering economic confidence.
His comments come amidst ongoing concerns about the mismanagement of public resources in Zambia.
Mr. Chisanga argues that fighting corruption not only enhances donor funding but also attracts private investment and creates a balanced economic environment.
“Anti-corruption efforts promote smooth donor funding and trigger private investment interest. They build an atmosphere of balanced economic confidence,” he stated.
He pointed to Zambia as a case study, noting that mismanagement of public resources has led to the loss of valuable donor support and potential investment opportunities.
“In Zambia, some government ministries and agencies that once had strong donor support patterns have lost out due to corruption and mismanagement,” Mr. Chisanga said. “This has had a ripple effect, causing us to miss out on promising economic opportunities.”
Mr. Chisanga stressed that shortcuts in wealth acquisition and unethical procurement practices undermine trust among donors and business communities. The role of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is pivotal in maintaining the integrity of the economic setup.
However, he notes that recent mishandlings at the ACC could jeopardize anti-corruption efforts and lead to further economic leakages in other government functions.
