Zambia Prioritizes Transport Infrastructure to Boost Regional Integration and Trade
Zambia’s Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Charles Milupi, has said that the government is committed to enhancing the country’s transport infrastructure to facilitate regional integration and boost trade.
Speaking at the Infrastructure Africa Conference, Minister Milupi outlined plans for the construction and rehabilitation of roads, rail lines, and aviation infrastructure through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Minister Milupi emphasized the strategic importance of projects such as the African Union’s trans-African highways in connecting the continent. Improved infrastructure, he noted, is crucial for increasing trade flows and promoting economic growth.
He highlighted that the conference serves as a vital platform for industry stakeholders to engage in dialogue, share information, and explore investment opportunities.
The Infrastructure Africa Conference aims to connect infrastructure professionals, foster knowledge exchange, and promote business development in response to Africa’s growing infrastructure needs.
Minister Milupi expressed optimism that the event would help actualize Zambia’s potential as a land-linked country by developing alternative corridors to the sea and international markets, thereby enhancing regional integration.
In his keynote address, South Africa’s Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, called for greater collaboration across the continent to achieve common infrastructure goals.
The event was also attended by Zambia’s Deputy High Commissioner Inonge Mwenya, representing High Commissioner Ms. Mazuba Monze, and Trust Hamaleka from Zambia’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development.
The statement was issued by Tamara Nyirenda, First Secretary Press and Public Relations at the Zambia High Commission in South Africa.
