SADC to Convene 26th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ in Lusaka
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is set to hold the 26th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation from 11-12 July 2024 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka. The meeting aims to discuss and promote peace and security in the region.
Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P., Zambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will chair the meeting in his capacity as the Chairperson of the MCO.
The MCO, composed of Ministers responsible for Foreign Affairs, Defence, Public Security, and State Security from all SADC Member States, is mandated to coordinate the work of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation.
In accordance with Article 5 of the SADC Protocol on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, the MCO’s primary focus is on promoting peace, security, and political stability, which are essential for regional cooperation and integration.
The official opening session of the MCO will take place on Thursday, 11 July 2024, at 09:00 hours, with the closing session scheduled for Friday, 12 July 2024, at 11:30 hours. Both ceremonies will be held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
Preceding the MCO meeting, Senior Officials will gather on 8-9 July 2024, chaired by Ms. Etambuyu Anamela Gundersen, Permanent Secretary of International Relations and Cooperation in Zambia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
