Govt Promotes Solar Energy for Small Businesses

To tackle the problems caused by electricity load shedding, the Zambian government is encouraging small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to use solar energy, aimed at helping businesses to keep running smoothly even when power cuts happen.

Hon. Elias Mubanga, MP, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, is leading this effort. “We want to help small businesses succeed, even during power cuts,” Mubanga said. “Solar energy is a reliable and sustainable solution.”

The Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development, through the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC), is giving solar systems and generators to small businesses. This support will help them manage load shedding and continue their work.

Yesterday, Hon. Mubanga, with Hon. Elvis Nkandu, Minister of Youth, Sport, and Art, visited SMEs that sell solar products. They wanted to learn more about their work and find ways to work together. “We are here to support these businesses and build a strong network for solar energy,” Mubanga said.

During the visit, the ministers advised the solar product suppliers to form an association and write a proposal to the government. This proposal will show how they can better supply solar products with government support.

This plan is part of a bigger strategy to use more renewable energy and rely less on traditional power sources. By helping SMEs use solar technology, the government aims to create a strong business environment and promote sustainable growth.
