In a heartfelt letter addressed to FAZ President Andrew Kamanga, FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed profound condolences over the untimely death of former Chipolopolo star Justin Shonga.
The FIFA boss offered words of comfort, hoping that memories of Shonga’s remarkable career would provide solace during this difficult period.
“Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel for this loss,” Infantino wrote, reflecting on Shonga’s impactful career. The Zambian footballer earned over 30 caps with the Chipolopolos and notably contributed to the national team’s journey to the final of the 2017 Cosafa Cup.

“Talent of Zambian football, his legacy and achievements, and in particular his personality, his loyalty and his human qualities will not be forgotten and he will be truly missed,” Infantino emphasized.
Shonga, who passed away at the age of 27, was laid to rest today in his homeland of Chipata. Infantino, speaking on behalf of the international football community, extended deepest sympathies to the Football Association of Zambia, as well as to Shonga’s family, friends, and loved ones.
“We hope that these memories and our words of support may help bring some peace and solace at this difficult time,” Infantino concluded.
