US General Commends Zambia Army for Successful African Land Forces Summit
The Zambia Army has received high praise from the United States Army Command for its exemplary organization and execution of the 2024 African Land Forces Summit (ALFS). The event, co-hosted with the U.S. Army, took place from April 22 to 26 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Livingstone, Zambia.
The commendation follows a year of meticulous preparations led by Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi. The preparations began after the Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) selected Zambia to host the summit during the 2023 ALFS in Abidjan.
Lt. Gen. Alibuzwi, accompanied by Brigadier General Jethrow Chipili, Colonel Martin Kalaluka Liyungu, and Army Sergeant Major Monday Nonde, took on the responsibility with a commitment to excellence.
Major General Todd Wasmund, Commanding General of SETAF-AF, praised the Zambia Army’s Public Relations and Foreign Liaison Directorate in a letter addressed to Col. Martin Kalaluka Liyungu. Maj. Gen. Wasmund highlighted the “exceptional dedication and hard work” of the Public Relations team, which he credited for the summit’s resounding success.
He noted that the event served as a pivotal platform for fostering collaboration, exchanging ideas, and strengthening partnerships among Africa’s land forces.
The summit, which received extensive media coverage throughout Southern Africa, was recognized for its strategic approach in securing media engagement, thereby extending its reach and influence.
Maj. Gen. Wasmund commended the proactive measures taken by the Public Relations team, emphasizing Zambia’s commitment to advancing regional security and cooperation.
