EAZ to Host 2024 Economic Summit to Address External Debt Solutions
The Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) President, Dr. Oswald Mungule, has announced that stakeholders will gather at the upcoming 2024 Economic Summit to address the pressing issue of external debt, exploring the potential use of disaster financing as a sustainable solution.
Dr. Mungule emphasized the country’s ongoing challenges with external debt and highlighted the innovative approach of utilizing disaster funding to manage long-term debt.
“The other side of the problem that the country is facing is external debt. We are also looking at using disaster funding, which is more sustainable, to sort out the long-term debt of the country,” he said.
The summit is scheduled for July 25th and 26th at Ciela Resort in Chongwe District, Lusaka. Dr. Mungule stated that the EAZ will invite funders to the summit to support sustainable development projects in sectors such as energy, agriculture, and construction.
The theme of the summit is “Pioneering Zambia’s Sustainable Economic Transformation through Climate Change Adaptation and Sustainable Financing Mechanisms after Debt Restructuring.”
Dr. Mungule noted that the event aims to provide a collaborative platform for the government, industry players, and stakeholders to analyze strategies for disaster navigation, economic resilience, and recovery through innovative approaches and partnerships.
Dr. Mungule extended an invitation to participate in the summit, emphasizing its focus on sustainable development, climate change adaptation, and innovative financing mechanisms.
He highlighted that the summit will also delve into the latest insights on the IMF Program and Zambia’s economic outlook for 2024 and beyond, offering an exclusive opportunity to engage with industry experts and gain valuable insights into the dynamic economic landscape.
