The 2024 Stella Artois Zambia Polocrosse Open concluded with Basebuild emerging victorious in a showcase of skill and spirited competition at the Leopards Hill Polocrosse Club.

The prestigious tournament, sponsored by Zambia’s beloved premium beer, brought together top players from Zambia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

“The Stella Artois Zambia Polocrosse Open celebrates Zambia’s equestrian talent,” remarked Tawanda Hojane, Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Zambian Breweries. “We’re proud to support this event for the second consecutive year and look forward to our National Team’s participation in the upcoming World Cup in South Africa.”

Chairman of the Zambia Polocrosse Association, Steve Kyriazis, described polocrosse as a dynamic sport demanding exceptional skill and teamwork, thanking Stella Artois for their pivotal sponsorship in making the event a success and supporting fundraising efforts for the World Cup.

Zambia, known for its strong presence in polocrosse, has a history of international success, including a second-place finish at the 2015 World Cup and a commendable fourth-place in 2019. With preparations underway for the 2024 World Cup in Durban Shongweni, South Africa, the Zambian National Team, managed by Henry Beckett, is optimistic about their prospects.

Despite being a smaller community in the sport, Zambian polocrosse continues to impress on the global stage. Lauren Summers, a World Cup player, highlighted the community’s passion and determination, stating, “We may be small in number, but our hearts are big.”

The Zambia Polocrosse Open not only showcased thrilling gameplay but also offered spectators the chance to enjoy Stella Artois’ distinctive flavour amid lively after-parties featuring top DJs. As Zambia prepares for the World Cup, the future looks bright for their ambitious polocrosse team.
