Fashion Sakala Jr. Inspires Eastern Province with Record-Breaking Tournament

Fashion Sakala Jr., the pride of Eastern Province, left a lasting impact with the successful conclusion of the K700,000 Fashion Sakala Jr. Cup tournament, where Petauke Young Nkwazi emerged victorious after a thrilling penalty shootout against Mika FC.

The tournament, organized by Sakala himself, marks a historic milestone as the largest individual investment in provincial football, aiming to foster grassroots talent and community unity. 

Sakala, visibly emotional, expressed deep gratitude to his supporters and reaffirmed his commitment to expand the tournament’s reach to encompass all ten provinces in Zambia.

“I am overwhelmed by the support from the people of Eastern Province. This tournament is not just about football; it’s about uniting communities and paving the way for future generations,” Sakala remarked, his voice filled with pride.

The event, graced by dignitaries including Provincial FAZ Chairperson Chrispin Kamuna and Agriculture Minister Reuben Mtolo Phiri, highlighted the transformative power of sports in promoting social cohesion and youth development. 

Kamuna praised Sakala for his unprecedented contribution, emphasizing its profound impact on local teams and players.

“The investment Fashion Sakala Jr. has made in this tournament is unparalleled. It has allowed 54 teams to compete and showcase their talents, fostering a spirit of competitiveness and excellence,” Kamuna stated.

The tournament also recognized outstanding individual achievements, with Wezi Jere clinching the top scorer’s award and Timothy Zulu from Young Mfuwe Resource Centre honored as the best young player. 

Petauke Young Nkwazi swept several awards, including player of the tournament, best defender, and best goalkeeper.

As the festivities concluded, Sakala Sr., a pillar of support throughout the tournament, joined his son in celebrating the success of the event and expressed optimism about its future impact on Zambian football.
