Zambia and Burundi Strengthen Ties at 5th Session of Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation

Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, SC, M.P, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Zambia, met with His Excellency Ambassador Albert Shingiro, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation of Burundi, in Lusaka today. 

Ambassador Shingiro is visiting Zambia at the invitation of Hon. Haimbe to attend the Ministerial Segment of the 5th Session of the Zambia-Burundi Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC), scheduled for Friday, 14th June 2024, at Neelkanth Sarovar Premiere Hotel.

The Ministerial meeting will follow the meeting of Technical Experts from Zambia and Burundi, which is taking place from 12th to 13th June 2024. 

The 5th Session of the JPCC aims to review progress made in areas of cooperation agreed during the 4th Session and discuss new collaboration opportunities. 

The session will also evaluate existing Memoranda of Understanding/Agreements and negotiate new ones in line with the development goals of both countries.

Zambia and Burundi enjoy longstanding warm and cordial relations based on shared values and interests. The two nations continue to cooperate in social, political, and economic areas within the framework of the Zambia-Burundi JPCC, fostering mutual benefit and shared prosperity.

The convening of the 5th Session of the Zambia-Burundi JPCC highlights the commitment of both governments, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia and President Évariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi, to advance economic diplomacy.
