KNBEPC Initiates 100MW Solar PV Project Following ZEMA Approval

The Kariba North Bank Extension Power Corporation (KNBEPC), a subsidiary of ZESCO Limited, has launched a 100-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Kafungalubala village, Chisamba district.

The project, situated under Chief Chaamuka’s jurisdiction, aims to enhance Zambia’s power generation capabilities and create economic opportunities in the region.

The project received the green light for construction after successful environmental assessments conducted by the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA). Sino Hydro, the selected contractor, has already mobilised its team and commenced initial works.

The primary clearing of 106 hectares has been completed, with secondary clearing and ground leveling currently underway. All project designs have been finalised and are pending final approval from suppliers by KNBEPC.

Strategically located along Zambia’s central corridor, this solar PV project is set to bolster the region’s power infrastructure. It underscores KNBEPC’s commitment to cost-effective and efficient project execution while highlighting Zambia’s dedication to a sustainable energy future.

Solar power is anticipated to play a pivotal role in the nation’s energy mix, reinforcing Zambia’s commitment to sustainable development and energy security.
