Minister of Justice Princess Kasune Calls on Government Lawyers to Combat Corruption and Uphold Integrity
Minister of Justice Hon. Princess Kasune, M.P., delivered a powerful message to government lawyers at the State Advocates Training workshop held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre today.
She emphasized the critical role they play in tackling corruption and restoring public confidence in the justice system.
The workshop aimed to provide a capacity-building platform for State Advocates, addressing emerging issues in the legal field and fostering interaction among legal professionals.
Minister Kasune highlighted the importance of integrity, distinction, and impartiality in performing their duties.
She urged lawyers to actively combat corruption by reporting any instances and avoiding involvement in white-collar crimes.
Minister Kasune stressed the significance of upholding the rule of law to ensure an efficient legal system.
She pointed out that the government’s economic transformation agenda relies heavily on the contributions of State Advocates in shaping and implementing policies.
Additionally, she reminded the lawyers of their oaths to uphold the Constitution, their office duties, and allegiance to the President of Zambia.
Digital technology was also a focal point, with Minister Kasune encouraging the use of technology to enhance efficiency and reduce costs in service delivery.
Attorney-General Mr. Mulilo D. Kabesha, SC, echoed the Minister’s sentiments, urging State Advocates to prioritize public interest in their professional duties.
He emphasized the importance of procedural justice to ensure fair and just outcomes, and called for professionalism, fairness, and courtesy as mandatory standards for the legal profession.
Solicitor-General Mr. Marshal Muchende, SC, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting State Advocates in their mission to deliver justice to the people of Zambia.
He encouraged participants to apply the skills and principles learned during the training to their work.
